Elmer and staff are worth a medal. Their hospitality has not been found anyware else as half as good as Gibela Lodge. We miss the atmosphere and kindess. A big thank you from Sweden.

Gibela lives up to its advertising--safe, clean, convenient, aesthetically pleasing, and with an extremely helpful staff/owner. I would recommend it to anyone visiting South Africa for any reason.
Nice place to stay, very clean, especially for a hostel! Only thing was a very particular smell in the room.

Gibela is an oasis in the backpacking world... Peaceful and calm; tasteful in its decor; impeccably clean; and by far, more smoothly managed than any of the other 6 backpackers I've stayed at in South Africa. The quietness of the rooms (even the dorms!) allow travelers to sleep well. But Gibela can also very social, as the common spaces are very inviting. I met a few quality travel buddies just hanging around the lodge.

This place is clean. Elmar is a wealth of information and ever so helpful. Am not a big fan of the location, though. But then again, public transport isnt at its best in Durban. Its proximity to Super Spar was a big bonus.
