Unfortunately, the majority of the staff are unfriendly. Especially the owner and boss is very rude, impatient, unhelpful and ruthless, yelling when people are still sleeping in the dorms and so on. We didn't feel welcome at all. Depite its good location, I would not recommend this hostel. Check the Backpackers Hostel instead: cheap, clean, cool staff and located right on the main street downtown. Thomas, from Germany ~ 4th Sep 2009

Situated in a quite dreary area, within walking distance to the centre and to the bus terminal though. No lift, reception on the second floor - if there's any: sweeping through empty and lonesome gangways, you have to phone for staff to arrive... Slightly chaotic, don't be in a hurry to check in or out! Rooms and breakfast are fine, however breakfast room is tiny. RĂ¼diger, from Austria ~ 19th Aug 2009

Nice Hostels it is 15-20 minutes walking from downtown, it doesn't seem that long but when it's raining you wish you were there faster! The staff is good and always to help, as for the security they don't lock the doors it is kind of weird but i guess everybody thrust everybody. Manuel, from El Salvador ~ 17th Aug 2009

I am very upset, I did received a confirmation email from Hostels.com for my booking at Guesthouse Pavi. But when we arrived at the hotel, they said that it was fully booked, and they have never received any email from Hostels.com !!!!! It is the last time that I go on your website. Had to make phone call so that the guy could come check us in. Took 20 mins, guy was rude, and 'too busy to answer questions'. Dorm settings were as expected, breakfast was good. If you stay here make sure you go to the tourist info place for help because you will get nothing here. But price was good, and it's ok for staying just one night. Fully functional, nothing out of the ordinary. Some of the staff may seem a little grumpy or confused but it's probably due to high work load. Nice breakfast buffet. The place is a bit worn down - e.g., one of the two showers on my floor were out of order - but otherwise it's ok. They didn't reply to any of my e-mails after I ordered through hostels.com so I was a bit worried before getting there but in the end everything worked out fine. Mikael, from Sweden ~ 13th Aug 2009

we (a family group of four people) were really disappointed. we booked two double rooms private ensuite (that is: with private bathroom) and got two rooms without private bathroom in different houses and one of them was rather stinky. we asked to the personal (we couldn't meet the chef) for a partial refund and i left my email so that the chef would be able to contact me. i am still waiting for an email after more than a week. The Guesthouse Pavi was in a really good location, next to the historical center and the shopping center of Reykjavik. The breakfast is great. Jose, from USA ~ 11th Jun 2009

Came in late and was just there for sleeping. The room was clean, but the bathroom could've been in a better shape. Good breakfast compared to what we pay for the room. Guess the location is ok, but we didn't walk to the center from the guesthouse since we had a car. Marianne, from Norway ~ 6th Jun 2009

Good value for money, hostels like this one make possible for people with low budget to travel to expensive countries like Iceland. Lourdes, from Spain ~ 8th Jun 2009
