I found this hostel to be very warm and welcoming. The staff was eager to help and spoke very good English. I stayed in the Male dorm in the attic, where you sleep on futons on the wood floor. It was a nice vibe, although the ceiling was quite low, so may not be good for guys over 6 ft. Overall I recommend this hostel.

the staff was really nice, but not all of them could speak english very well. the rooms and facilities were clean, and there were a lot of local walking/biking maps of kyoto on the walls which were helpful.
The mens dorm is actually just the attick. The staff are great though. Very helpful and friendly. Most are local girls who are trying to improve their english so they are more than happy to talk and give advice for as long as you are willing to sit.

Nice staff, clean place, free internet.. the dorm is in the attic so you have to climb a ladder to get to it, and also watch your head on the beams. It;s also a bit of the walk to the main sights. But overall nice place to chill and rest after a long day sightseeing.

Guest House Yahata was very tidy and comfortable. The four person dorm room was manageable, at least with earplugs. Toast for breakfast every morning. Very friendly English-speaking staff. Stayed for three nights, and never had any trouble. Only problem was trying to check in early... no one is around during the day, so you have to leave your bags unattended in the foyer. Very clean, bathrooms nice, only one shower, steep steps, FREE INTERNET! Overall, A-.

The guys here were lovely, the rooms immaculate and great location.
My friend and I really enjoyed our stay at the guesthouse. The staff were really welcoming and soooo kind... They made our stay in Kyoto really special and I'd recommend the guesthouse to anybody wishing to visit Kyoto.

Great staff who are very welcoming and helpful. Free breakfast of toast and coffee is good value, also free internet is great. Rooms are simple with sleeping mats which can be tough if you're not used to them. Thin walls and share facilities (one bath, two toilets)can be challenging. Best for those wishing to stay out late and who can sleep heavily through noise, tends to attract younger visitors due to no curfew. Good location close to Gojo Station and walking distance to Kyoto Station.
The Staff was very helpful with Sites to see and places that would be interesting. Very nice staff and fun to talk to. I recommend this place to everyone.

The guest house definitely has an authentic Japanese quality. Unfortunately, the walls are paper thin, and you can hear everything (people talking, footsteps...) If you're looking for a good night's rest, be prepared to be woken up in the morning. Other than that, the staff are very friendly and helpful and it's a charming stay.
