  • I felt all of the staff were wonderful and made the stay that much more enjoyable. Also the free breakfast was a great bonus!

  • Awesome! For the low cost, I had a wonderful experience. Clean rooms, hot and high pressure shower water, free breakfast (bagels, bread, juice, oatmeal, coffee and tea). Sure it is in the TenderNob but as long as you do not walk around alone late, you are totally fine. Plus, it is right by Union Suare - a huge plus. Would go back here in a heartbeat.

  • The hostel was ok, but the location was horrible, the neighborhood was kind of dangerous. Would recomend another location if you want to walk around safely at night and so...

  • Staying there was exccellent excpt for parking.. It cost me $12 on Friday and $20 on Saturday at the hotel next door. The tenderloin area adjacent is terrible: lots of homeless on the stret 24/7. The hostel suggests not going there at night for any reason!!

  • Amazing hostel with so many great facilities and very friendly, helpful staff. I really liked having a convenient and secure place to store my bike. They have all kinds of events going on, lots of info about the area, attractions, maps, and the place is very clean and beautiful. I would highly recommend.

  • The best part is the cleaness and the breakfast. You can't complain that. The worst part is the location: location itself isn't that bad, walking distance to the Union square (only possible during the day time though..) not too far from the subway and one bus line is right next to the building which takes you to the Fisherman's wharf directl. However there are homeless people when you walk up to the hostel, which made me feel quite unsafe and smells bad too.

  • This is a very good hostel to stay in. Different activities going on every evening and eggs or pancakes for the breakfast just for one dollar? I would definitely come back again

  • The staff is very friendly, the rooms are not big, but not too small and they are even cleaned every day. The hostel has a great breakfast, although the dining room can get a bit crowded. The only thing that is not very good about this hostel is the location, since the hostel is close to an area with many homeless people, but the security is great and they leave you alone in any case, so that isn't a big problem.

  • Nice place with a very good and atencious staff. I felt it a little expensive, but with a little research it's easy to see that it is average for SF.

  • The only thing I can complain about is the location because it's a bit closer to the homeless area! Otherwise, there's nothing I can complain.

  • This hostel was a good bet, though the staff was very pushy here and there. They also promote a large amount of events with the hostel, but in our 4 night stay, there was nothing to do, kind of a shame if you ask me

  • We arrived at HI San Frnacisco at 1am in the morning. THe staff member on duty was very friendly and helpful when we arrived. The rooms were great, the vibe was great, the food was great ($1 unlimited pancakes? Amazing!). The staff were friendly and very helpful. The bar was super fun. Overall a fantastic experience!

  • Loved this hostel! We got stuck with a loud snorer for two nights, but luckily they had earplugs on hand. Awesome atmosphere with people from all over the world, friendly/quirky staff, and a great little bar and free breakfast. Just make sure you avoid the nearby Tenderloin area and your stay will feel safe. Great weekend in SF!

  • The reason for the low score in the facilities is because of the size of the room. The en-suite per 4 person room is a nice touch but the room is so small that to access the limited storage space you must get uncomfortably close to a person on the bottom bunk. The part of town where this hostel is situated is terrible. it is not a safe area and only a matter of time before a hostel guest is assaulted / mugged. How about you don't limit the number of characters I can type. You want comments?

  • I stayed at H. I. San Francisco for four days and loved it. The staff were all fabulous always helpful and kind. The hostel offered some good deals for tourists I rode a bike over the Golden Gate Bridge saving $12. The continental breakfast was a great start to the day. I thoroughly recommend it. (Oh, I'm 62 and haven't stayed at a hostel for 40 years.)
