It is a 45 minutes walk where the bus alights to the hostel (just slightly less than 2 miles). With a heavy backpack it is quite tiring. It is very near to the beach but it was full of bugs (flies) which bite.. so hardly anyone stay long on the beach to enjoy. The water too strong and cold for swimming. Not so ideal for sunbathing nor leisure swimming. These 2 factors ~ location and flies make the hostel less desirable.

I stayed there for two nights with my wife in HI Truro. The stuffs are incredibly hospital and helpful. The kitchen is well equipped. Location wise amazing. The beach is in stone-throwing distance. Tourist attractions like Provincetown and Wellfleet towns are close enough. The hostel matches description as in website. I must say that I did a right thing to choose HI Truro for my accommodation while my weekend trip to Cape Cod in June 2008. Highly recommendable.

Bugs in the bedroom - I would never go again even if I had to. Not at all clean downstairs.

If you have no car make sure you have no bags as there is a 2 mile hike to anything!!

Great, secluded place to stay...but be warned, it is two miles just to the nearest bus stop!

some of the information on hostelworld's site regarding check-in time, room size, coed vs same sex rooms, etc was incorrect which was a bit frustrating during our stay

It is a rough building but the staff work hard to make it pleasant. It is an old coast guard station so there's absolutely no carpeting with chipped, painted concrete floors in the coed/mens area. It is a short walk to the ocean and 1.5 miles to a store. It's a 10 min. drive to P-town. The kitchen is clean and updated and Truro is right on a bus line to Boston. The female dorm is waaay nicer than the coed and male. Bring a bike or a car and you'll be pretty set.
