this place is a old army base surrounded by fencing and I couldn't help whistling the theme to great escape on my way to the bunk house. Most of the staff are great, but there is one guy that was always uptight and sometimes so rude and patronising its amazing he didn't get smacked one. But don't let that put you off the place is great amazing views and a real laid back feel, perfect after plastic fakeness of LA

Nice place. Quitre outside of the city centre. The nice places of LA are on the other side of the city. 45 minutes or so.

I couldn't get into Santa Monica because it was full. I opted for South Bay. It was very peaceful and a really laid back atmosphere. I felt very safe...low risk of theft. They had free internet which was great, but other travelers were a little bit rude about giving you time to check your mail, so the hostel might want to consider a sign up list with half hour blocks written out.
