I stayed here for a night, and I was greeted by the most beautiful girl at reception who was friendly and helpful, the breakfast cooked was delicious and staying in a Prison was a most interesting experience. My only complaint would be the hissing pipe (although it was pretty quiet) outside my room, and perhaps a lounge upstairs would be nice too, but other than that it was the most perfect experience. Absolutely fine accommodation but if you value peace and quiet it's probably not for you. Lots of teenage kids running around at night but reception does supply free ear plugs! So close to all the main sites though and very comfy bed. Louise, from Scotland ~ 2nd Nov 2011

The jail is pretty cool but expensive for what it is - all advertised costs are "member rates" and you have to pay more for "membership". No breakfast or staff interaction - it isn't really the best hostel experience of my life but this place is really all about the venue. Not bad but not good. Luke, from Australia ~ 11th Oct 2011

This is really expensive especially when you are no HI-member. There is no breakfast included, no availability to buy a breakfast, you have to pay to store your luggage and I didn“t like the jail atmosphere but unfortunately there had been no other hostel in Ottawa. Loved this hostel just because it was so unique. Did not have the nerve to sleep in a jail cell. Location was great and price is good especially if you are a HI member. Kristy, from New Zealand ~ 21st Dec 2011

Ideal location, meets most needs of travellers, but DEFINITELY OVERPRICED. For the price, I would AT LEAST expect a breakfast and to be able to take the Crimes & Punishment tour for free. They should also replace those squeeky beds and fix the noisy ventilation on the 4th floor. The membership thing is totally outdated, considering that youth hostels are no longer a new concept. After a few nights of paying the supplement for non-members, I should get my membership card, like in Europe. Joanie, from Canada ~ 4th Sep 2011

Great location, close to Parliament Hill and other attractions. Very friendly staff, 24-hour desk, were quick to share stories and offer help when I left my bag at a local club. Very interesting to sleep in the old jail "cells" it was an interesting twist. David, from Canada ~ 25th Jul 2011
