When we arrived we were told that our room's boiler has been acting up. For the first half of the first night is leaked steam and made the room very humid. However, Dakota was very nice about it and said it should be fixed asap and sure enough by the time we got back to our room the next from touring the city we didn't have another problem with it. Thank you!! The staff is always happy to help in any way. I never have any bad issues at this hostel. brance, from USA ~ 1st Feb 2012

I was very happy with the Hostel. Everything was good, it was clean, close to public transport, they offered some activities, the breakfast was delicious (they offered local bread), the rooms were very clean and pretty big. Only thing was, I did not feel very welcome when I asked the staff about things and they seemed to be kind of pissed about my questions or issues (my key did not work). But this is only a very small issue!

I have rated this hostel based on the dorm upstairs in the annexe which was COLD (no heating at all and staff uninterested), and in need of toilet lids/a repaint/new bunks/linen/blankets (all very worn)/carpet shampoo (it smelt)/stronger lighting. This should be priced as an ultra-budget option - it is worth no more than $15 per night (including ALL taxes. The second night I spent in the main house which was slightly better but still only average quality. Management should check out other host

Clean enough, with a decent location. Second building had slight smell downstairs. Flet like we were on a school trip at times (lots of rules and regulations) one room to drink alcohol which stopes at 10. Far to little bathroom to bed ratio. Steve, from England ~ 26th Nov 2011

Honestly felt so at home here at HI Portland NW. Desk staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Met such fun and genuine people. Situated in a great neighborhood and very close to surrounding ones. Had so much fun! Could not recommend this hostel enough! Lauren, from Canada ~ 22nd Nov 2011

A nice Hostel within the Downtown area, a fair walk from the Amtrak and Greyhound but still walkable. Randall, from USA ~ 16th Nov 2011

not THAT close to downtown walls really thin, so you can hear people walking about no personal reading lights, so the one person in our room reading, had the light on well after everyone tried to go to sleep lockers in the room are a bonus. recommend the hostel institute a "lights off by" like the hostel on SE Hawthorne JoAnne, from USA ~ 6th Oct 2011
