HI-San Francisco Downtown (Union Square) in San Francisco, United States

This overall was a great hostel; it is at an excellent location, newer remodel, it's clean, plenty of space and felt safe. However, I did have some problems. First off it was a larger hostel and felt impersonal, second the staff was very helpful but didn't seem friendly or engaged, third the street noise was loud and kept me up till 3:30am (grab the free ear plugs). Location was great! The hostel is in the heart of San Francisco. There are 2 showers and 2 lavatories per flood what is not enough for a hostel that big. It's also not the most clean one. The staff is fun except for couple people who work at the front desk. I had a total unnecessary late call in my room at 11:15am and the person was totally rude. this place is awesome, IF you know a few things .. like sometimes the vending meshines wont take your money.. but just keep trying it'll work =) .. the food is SWEET but theres not that mush to choose from.. its mainly peanutbutter and jelly time, I'd love it if thay had some cerial and milk.. and then theres the surrounding streets.. if your out at night.. make sure not to go south (down the hill) stay on O'frerreal streat when gowing to or from the hostle.. or go up around, passing the Union S Ronnie, from Denmark ~ 1st Oct 2009

The location was fairly safe but if you get street room then it might be hard to get some sleep with the traffic and city life. Lockers in the room were extremely small, outside lockers are available for larger loads but is a hassle to deal with. Staff was ok the free purified water made up for some of it.
