Hanoi Backpackers is pretty average in my book. At $8.50 a night for a dorm bed, it's expensive when you can get a private room in a hotel for $15-20. The mattresses were very hard and the bathrooms were only somewhat clean. It attracts a lot of gap-year aged backpackers, and if that's your scene, then you'll probably like the place. Overall, the hostel is ok, but not excetional. Wilson, from USA ~ 30th Aug 2009

This hostel, in my opinion, is highly overated. It is on an alleyway that is home to a dozen or more hotels, all very similar in price, which more than twice the ammenities. The hostel itself is nothing special. I would recommend staying at a HOTEL on the same alleyway, and just stopping in at the hostel for its happy hour. For 8-10 USD you can get your own private room, towels, satellite tv, bathtub, etc. Whereas at the hostel you are in a 10-12 person dorm room with ensuite bathroom. Ben, from Canada ~ 7th Jul 2009

Hanoi Backpackers has the social atmosphere that other parts of Vietnam lack. Great chill out zone, all the amenities, plus cleanliness! However, one wonders if the fame has gone to their heads, as prices appear above average and staff can be a little pushy. One of the only places in Indochina where staying too long costs more... Staff is great, very energetic, and at times entertaining. with loads of usefull info about Vietnam and Hanoi. This is a backpackers hub so also great place for meeting other travelers. I highly recommend the trip they offer to Halong Bay, for anyone looking for a great party along with a dose of exercise. Jarrett, from USA ~ 28th Apr 2009

If you want to meet people, this is definitely the place to go...heaps of really friendly people. The price of the dorms is ok-ish but anything extra (beer, soft drinks, laundry etc) is hugely over-priced, as are the tours, bus-tickets etc you can book through them Nicholas, from New Zealand ~ 2nd Mar 2009

HBH is located on a street with a few hostels, but this is THE one to go and chill at. They've got lots of great tours available at alright prices, and helpful staff. Happy hour is the best part, and lots of great people to meet. Erik, from Canada ~ 9th Feb 2009
