  • Much bigger hostel than I expected. Very busy. Excellent location and we were able to leave our bags all morning until our afternoon train.

  • I didn't like our double private bedroom. It was really small and the heater didn't work.

  • amazing!! the people were great & the staff very friendly. kitchens are spacious and well kept. the showers are clean. within walking distance of basically everything. A++ would return again. (the cafe across the street does not offer a discount as it is suggested, so don't go in expecting one!)

  • Some of the night staff were defensive, impatient, quick to anger, intimidating, and just plain rude to the extent that it diminished my entire experience in Edinburgh. I will never again book a bed at High Street Hostel and I will actively recommend to all that they actively avoid High Street Hostel. Unfriendly staff there can quickly ruin your day.

  • Spent two nights here, two women in a four-person dorm. It's in a really great location; not far from Edinburgh Waverly (though an uphill climb to get there), and located just off the Royal Mile! I had nothing major to complain about at all; the staff was very helpful and friendly. The foam mattresses were thin, but not uncomfortable and the bathroom/sheets were clean, though old-looking. I felt very secure, and the atmosphere was warm and fun. Only issue? No elevator, but it's an old building.

  • Lockers in dorms. Nice area downstairs and in the basement. WiFi didn't work when I was there which was a little annoying and they didn't manage to fix it during the three days I was there which I think a little too long as travellers depend on it. But apart from that it was a nice stay.

  • The location of this hostel is great, and therefore it's easy to get to the place. Also nice experiences to stay there for two nights. I would like to especially thank to the friendly staff to make guests feel like home. :) However, the toilet is smelly since every afternoon, even though it is cleaned everyday. Anyway, I like this friendly hostel.

  • Excellent hostel, great location (yet quiet during the night, at least room 5C). Very easy- going friendly staff, lovely burger nights in the big lounge-cum-kitchen. What else? Beds: better bunk beds than most hostels because they are fixed to the wall, so no wobbling or squeaking. Mattress looked flimsy but was actually quite comfortable (and I`m 40 with a history of back problems). Room (4-bed, 5C): small but sufficient with a window. Will definitely go there again!

  • great choice, excellent location, lots of facilities, you can even rent towels, lots of organized things such as pub crawl, highly recommend (even though our 6 bed room was a bit small, and smelly! ) )

  • The room was dusty. The building had a pervading odour of wee. There was never any indication the bathrooms had been cleaned. The girl on the desk when we arrived wasn't overly friendly. We stayed at a different hostel our last two nights, and this second hostel left the High Street in the dust. It's ok as far as somewhere to sleep goes, but anyone looking for accommodation should know there is better in Edinburgh.

  • I stayed there in June '12, went back in July and since then, I keep High Street as the reference of what I'm looking for in a hostel. Great atmosphere with tons of activities going on but at the same time people were respectful and I had good nights of sleep. On top of that, it was good location, fully equipped kitchen, and I didn't have the feeling it was all for money (free coffee/tea/hot chocolate, linen included, etc). It's the place for backpachers to meet people and discover Edinburgh!

  • Hostel was in an amazing location, right off of the Royal Mile. Room was comfortable with linens included and towel rental of only 20p. No outlets in room which is the only downfall. The staff were all fantastic- so welcome and open and ready to meet new people! The breakfast selection is perfect and the themed nights they have (Burgers several times a week) give you great value for your money and a delicious meal! Bathrooms were a bit small, but suitable nonetheless!

  • every corridor out of room has charge plug in but it is competitive to get it . If you want to charge of your electronic things , you need to ask reception desk. Every room has no plug .

  • The hostel was very nice and clean and the staff was very friendly. They give you your own locker in your room for free, which is really convenient. The top beds don't have any border or rail, which is a bit scary because you can just roll out of them, which could be a quite dangerous. Breakfast is not free and you don't get anything special when you pay, but there are fridges available so you can bring your own food.
