The showers weren't hot enough. Staff were friendly. Ppl were nice. I liked the setup. Wow - they're not kidding about the steep hill to get there from town! I definitely got my workout!

great little hostel but a bitch of a walk up the road from central queenstown

An overall great hostel. They offer discounts when you book activities with them, and the kitchen is well equipped. I stayed in both a dorm room and a double room and they were both clean and comfortable. The walk up the hill with the backpack does suck, but it's really not the end of the world, and it's just a short walk into town.

pretty loud from hostel partiers staying for a raucous night of drinking... made it hard to fall asleep. aside from that, no complaints!

The hippo lodge was among the better hostels I've stayed at in new zealand. It's small, and not so central, which are both good things, since you'll be able to get some sleep. The girl that worked reception was both very helpful (let me get a refund on prepaid days when I wanted to leave... no questions asked), and unbelievably beautiful.

Lovely and peaceful retreat in a beautiful town. The steep hill can be a pain, but the view from the rooms makes up for it by far. Very cleanly kept kitchens and bathroom.

Good facilities at this hostel and the communal area was a good place to relax. The dorms stank though with the smell of clothes drying on the radiator. The staff were more than helpfull .
