This place is not a hostel. It is a hotel which has dorms. There is no kitchen and the rooms are pretty scrappy. It sounds like the owners of this pub/hotel bought the name and phone number of what used to be a good hostel and it\'s actually a kind of shitty hotel. Not recommending this place at al for travellers.

I wouldn't recommend this hostel. It is not a good place to meet people, there is no common room (although there is a tiny, dirty kitchen), and the bathrooms are grim. I won't stay here again.

We stayed there for two seperate nights. The first night we stayed in a great room. However, the second night, they made us switch rooms to a horrible room. Thankfully we had an early flight the next day because there were cockroaches in the room. I would not reccomend this horrible place to anyone!

Hollydene Lodge is actually owned and operated by someone else, so the hostel you book from here is not the hostel you will stay in. The entire place was gloomy and cold, reminded me of the setting of a horror movie. Kitchen is nonexistant, bathrooms are in various states of rundown. Good for one night, I would not recommend longer stays.

It is an excellent place to stay very central to everything like all the old photos of what Hobart use to look like. The price is great as I am only 17 I will be using Hollydene as my accomadation when I travel to Hobart.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming upon my arrival. Hollydene is actually right in the city, and half the price of the other backpackers. it was short walk to everything in Hobart. i would warn that lockers in the dorm rooms are un-reliable, so you need to be careful with your pack.

Hollydene Lodge was not bad for a hostel but not great either - having a 2 bed dorm was great (I got the place to myself which was good value) and the bathrooms were clean with plenty of hot water- but theres not heaps of them. the dining space does not lend itself to easy interaction and it wasn't the most social hostel ive stayed in. the location is pretty good which is why I chose it but it didn't have much character for a building built in the 1850s. Not great but you could do worse.
