Guest House Bistrik is located in a block you can never find by yourself, so take a taxi. It's 6-7 minutes' walk to the historical center, but quiet and relaxing around the House.

The Bistrik Guest House is located across the river from the old town of Sarajevo (Bascarsija) and even though it takes 10-15 minutes to walk there, it's still a pretty good location. There are also some interesting little mosques nearby. The staff of the guest house are very nice, helpful people. The woman who mainly runs the place, Nezira, doesn't speak much English, but I got my requests across easily by pantomiming. Nezira's son, Emir, speaks English fluently, and if he's around, he's a great help. Also, he is willing to engage in political conversations about Bosnia, the United States, Europe, etc, as well as answer questions about the Bosnian War, which he fought in. Do bring your own towels, and your own pillow, as the ones available are of low quality. Also, don't expect any frills. This isn't a hotel, it's a family home with extra rooms. There is no wireless (though there is a cafe five minutes away with wireless) and your room won't have a telephone.

I recommend this guest house highly. It's comfortable enough for the price (15 euro per night is really not much to argue about), and the location is great: it is very close to the city centre but still in an extremely quiet neighbourhood with charming, Balkan-style surroundings and great views of the city. The owner is friendly and speaks sufficient english. Highly recommended!

Promised a kitchen etc but this is only available for the apartment. Also promised pick up from bus station but did not answer phone so a 10KM taxi ride is needed to get there. Otherwise quite cosy. Feels like staying at your grandmothers house.

They were quite rude when i telephoned from the train station for pickup and briskly told us to catch a taxi. We found it very hard to communicate with the owner and this place if a very long walk from the heart of town (even the taxi didn't know where to go)

The hostel is very difficult to reach being towards the top of the hills which Sarajevo are surrounded by, it's not really a proper hostel, more like somebody's house witha few rooms made into guest rooms. We decided to stay in the en suite, and this was actually the converted cellar, colder inside then it was out.

Though I liked that this hostel was situated in the hills above the old Muslim quarter of Sarajevo, I had some problems with my stay here. The most troubling of them was the fact that our hosts did not have a record of our having booked a room through this website, and did not offer access to a computer or to email so that we could straighten things out. I ended up losing my deposit (or paying it twice, depending on how you figure it). There were also some issues with the general state of the rooms and with cleanliness. I was surprised when I went upstairs to pay my bill at the innkeeper's flat. It was lovely, well-lit, and very clean, not at all like the somewhat dingy room on the lower floor where we stayed. This was not a bad place for a stopover, but I'd be prepared for a little confusion and rooms that are pretty careworn. The family that owns the Bistrik seems nice enough, if a little befuddled by the details of running a multiple-room hostel.
The place is amazing! set up on the top of hill overlooking the city and greenery behind. I admit that it was a little walk to the city (10mins) but it was no problem- The staff are very friendly also. If i am to come back to sarajevo, i would most likely stay here
ok, so maybe i should have been turned off by the fact that the directions to this place simply say 'on the left hand side of the river'...and when, after half an hour of tryingt o find the place, i called, i was retold 'left hand side of the river'....apparently i must'vebeen facing the wrong way, because the hostel ended up being on the right hand side of the river from where i was standing. but there you go. anyway, the place is relatively close to the action, perhaps a 5-10 minute walk...however, what they fail to mention is that that 5-10 minute walk is up ian insanely steep hill, winding in and out of small sarajevan streets. although its safe enough, i wouldn't want to have been trying to find the place late at night. once you're there things are lovely. quiet. rooms with basins, ample heating, great views and even a guard dog! however, management seems a little lax as on my return to sarajevo, after staying one night, heading somewhere else and then returning, i had arranged to book the hostel again for a night. when i arrived the second time, there was noone home. i waited half an hour before giving up and finding another place. so...maybe i had a bad experience, but that experience was one of shoddy management and lack of real concern for the guests accompanied with a lovely, if rather expensive, hostel.

Very friendly place to visit Sarajevo.
