may want to avoid the eggs in the breakfast (but that should probably be a warning in general about all eggs all over Costa Rica)

On the beach, which is nice. And the staff are great! Best free breakfast I've ever eaten in a hostel/hotel. Not a lot to do in the hotel itself though. Still, I recommend it all the way!

Definitely the nicest hostel on Tortuguero! Each room is like your own cabana. There is a kitchen and a couple of hammocks to just hang out it by the beach. The hostel is right on the beach - I would HIGHLY recommend it!

This was a great little place right on the beach. The coolest part about it is you get your own room but you have to share a bathroom. The hammocks are a great place to wait for the rain to clear up.

The ambiance was great. The hostel was on the beach in a beautiful location. If I was to go back and do it again, I would definetely stay there. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful with directing us in fun activities and giving us great travel advice. I would highly recommend El Icaco to anyone wanting to go to Tortuguero and see the turtles!

What a great place! The absolutely perfect platform to launch into Tortuguero National Park from. This isn´t mentioned in any of the guide books because it is so new, but is clean, comfortable, very secure, and within a few hundred meters of the Park and right on the beach, on the quieter outskirts of town. Calixto and Mayabel are the husband and wife that own the hostel, and are the nicest, warmest people that we have met in Costa Rica, always willing to help you find what you need in town and truly looking out for your safety while you are their guests. They were upset at the way some of their guests were treated while they were out of town and left the hostel in another´s hands, who didn´t share their same devotion to warm hospitality, leading to some less than kind reviews here. I can only tell you that our stay in Tortuguero couldn´t have been better and more welcoming, largely due to Calixto and Mayabel. Some lovely new rooms were built during our stay, so more room is available. We came intending to stay for one night, and liked it so well we stayed for 5! If you are heading to Tortuguero, you should definitely stay here! -Christopher Duke Seattle, Washington
