Very central. Only one shower for the whole hostel whilst redecorating, so had to wait ages in the morning. No warning of this and no discount offered. Reasonable security. Not the cleanest hostel, but not too bad. Had a reasonale communal area, but no one seemed to use it...! Ok for a couple of nights if travelling with friends on a budget. I stayed here with my daughter, who is a (dutch) student in Russian language. She was my guide for I don't speak any Russian! We stayed for 8 days. We booked a twin bedroom with private bathroom. Very, very, luxurious at a very fair price. Also the dorms for backpackers were nice and clean. Great location at walking distance of all the great sites (Hermitage, Russian Museum, Izaak Cathedral etc. etc.) Metro station Sennaja nearby. Very friendly staff, all English-speaking. Spent two nights here and to be honest over-all it was a very good hostel. The onlyproblem was that the staff were not the most helpful. However our room was very spacious and the staff started to come out their shell a bit more near the end of our stay. I really liked this place. The beds are quite comfy and the rooms are spacious and pleasant. They have cleaners in every day, so the hostel is always clean. The staff are really very helpful. It was quite quiet while I was there: there weren't many other people staying there and it wasn't as friendly as other places (I tried saying 'hello' to so many people and got no response!) but it could have just been the time of year and the type of people who happened to be there.
