I usually trust Lonely Planet, but they missed the mark on this one. $12 for a dorm bed for what? A door that doesn't close, no free breakfast, doesn't accept credit card, strict staff who try to sell you everything the hostel has to offer, ice cold/scalding hot showers, and small unclean bathrooms. Big and impersonal, and the bar area is filled with cigarette smoke. A $12 waste of money. Tranquilo Backpackers, down the road, is a MUCH better option, and costs less money.

This hostel is alot of fun, clean and good resturant/bar area. It's a bit load so don't go there if your looking for peace and queit. Also, if your flight is late they will make you take a cab which you have to pay for. They have always been there for me but my friends was late coming in and they went out of their way to not help her.

An OK place to stay with a bunch of really lame rules. If you have to stay in San Jose for a night I´d stay here but I don´t think I could stay for much longer.

no communal kitchen, common areas can get a bit crowded at times, can be quite loud until 3am or later some nights (this could be a good or bad thing depending on what you want)

It was a good spot, airport pick up very handy, food in hostel is very good as is free internet access. However, it is really really noisy as the bar is beside the rooms and gets a little crazy

The staff is arrogant they neither help or explain something. I have never meet such a unprofessional staff like this. I would avoid it, if you can. Everything you have to pay extra. Again horrible staff. It's a shame!
I prepaid on-line for a bed and when I arrived it was given away. The hostel knew I was arriving late and even picked me up with their shuttle at the airport. Because of this it caused a chain of events that cost me a $200. taxi ride to the coast the next day. My advice is to hold on to any prepaid reservations.

Crap, room was cramped with 6 beds and no aircon. Constant noise and really quite trashy looking. I felt dirty just being there and couldn't wait to leave. Although their other hostel in ARENAL AREA, Arenal Backpackers is awesome, overpriced but awesome after Pangea!

Just got back from CR and this is the place to stay!!! Over the past six years, I've been to Costa Rica eight different times and have traveled all over the country. I've stayed in my share of hostels and Hostel Pangea is by far the best place! If you are staying in San Jose, this is the most secure and clean place you will find - especially when you consider how little it costs to stay here. The location is very central for travel. The staff are really fun, smart and attentive. It doesn't matter if you want a quiet place to just get away, or a fun place to meet travelers from all over the world - I've done both here! You can trust the owners and the staff to look out for you. They are always willing to help and super friendly! Definitely stay here!

the rooms are a bit shabby but otherwise its a great hostel with a really nice bar and restraunt. the staff were really helpful. there is however no pool bar like ive read!! unless thats just a summer thing
