This hostel is best for people with cars. It is quite a hike from the nearest public transportation. But this is an old mansion in a park, amazing. Well equipped kitchen, clean. Only real problem is that the floors are very old, and the bedroom floor squeaked with each and every footstep. Lyn, from USA ~ 15th Nov 2009

Way too far away from anything to be enjoyed properly and it closes during the day. A very pointless and frustrating hostel. Oli, from England ~ 26th Aug 2009

Staffs were very kind. When I lost my cell phone, one of staffs found mine out. However on the other hand, the location is so terrible. I lost my way many times with my heavy suitcase(60Pounds) before coming there. Also, shower rooms don't cherish privacies. And, I had to go outside until 11 a.m even though I stayed next day straight. I wanted to sleep over 11 a.m. But, Staffs were really good. REN, from Japan ~ 16th Aug 2009

Well, the location it is a serious problem. 40 minutes by bus and then other 20 on foot, it is not OK when you are in a hurry or when you are some luggage. AMEDEO, from Romania ~ 15th Aug 2009

I arrived by car, so it was easy to find. Perhaps the SEPTA bus company could be persuaded to add this destination to their route # 38, for at least a few trips per day. I also used the 44 bus to travel to Center City, and the 38 bus to return at dusk. I parked my car near the bus stops, which were 1.8 miles away. Theresa, from USA ~ 4th Aug 2009

This is too far. Don't go there, if you want to spend an evening in Phila - this is not even Philadelphia. Elena, from Russia ~ 18th Aug 2009

Hostel was good! A bit far from the main city. Staff were so great, friendly and helpful though! Charlotte, from Ireland ~ 23rd Oct 2009

Great hostel, but too far away from the city. Nice commonroom - a great place to meet other people. Julie, from Denmark ~ 30th Apr 2009

Nice place, but Chamounix Mansion's name is hard to spell/pronounce which may not be good for safety reasons. I could imagine during a 911 call over a cell phone, the dispatcher losing time trying to figure out where Shamanee or Chamoeniks Mansion/Drive is. Perhaps the hostel should be renamed. There are no lockers in the rooms. There are some in the main area but it costs $0.75. Each time you open the locker you have to pay the same amount. The staff acts as if they are doing you a favor by letting you stay in the hostel. You can't leave the building after midnight. Mine, from Turkey ~ 23rd Mar 2009
