Hostelling International Waikiki in Salisbury, USA

Our room had no fan and for three nights they wouldn't fix it despite it being summer and very hot. The staff was unhelpful about it.The entire place lacked any sense of character or fun. Great location but otherwise an unpleasant place to stay.

You're absolutely right, this should not have happened. Unfortunately I never met you & I was not aware of this issue until after I read your review. I have spoken to my staff and am glad that one of them took the initiative to give you one of her fans for the last night. I will be passing these comments to the owners. In the future if you encounter issues like these that deal with the facilities, its best to ask to speak to the manager directly so that he can take care of it immediately. Mahalo- manager

It is very loud, you can hear the traffic outside so much because of all the open windows. I have always lived in a big city, but I had a lot of trouble with sleeping. I have stayed in many hostels, and I don't usually have a problem with sleeping trough some noise. Maybe that is just the way it is in that location, but it did make me not want to come back. The staff here seems really unhappy which kind of kills the mood.You would think that they hate their jobs.They are really helpful but you'll feel like you're a burden to them.It says they close the common tv room at 3am but they start telling you that they're closing as early a 1:30am for cleaning. frank, from USA ~ 8th Jun 2011
