The male owner of IchEnSou was very helpful to me on the day I arrived, in prior to my checking in. I had left my bag on the bus from Tokyo to Kyoto and he not only placed calls to find out where my bag was, but offered to be called to act as translator when I arrived at that site. The hostel itself has bundles of character, including lovely wooden furniture he picked out. Importantly, the hostel owners trust you to behave properly and offer courtesy and friendliness in return. We absolutely loved this hostel, the hostel owner is so helpful and laid back, he organises outings in the evenings which gave us the perfect opportunity to see a side to Kyoto we wouldn't have otherwise and with great people. The hostel has a wonderful atmosphere about it, traditional in decoration and very warm and welcoming- jazz music in the common room just topped it off and gave it a really relaxed feel away from the hustle and busle of city life.
