- “ Honestly I loved India House. I felt as though I had already been living there forever, even though I only stayed 3 nights. The staff made everything easy. They stayed out of your way but you know you can go to them if you need them. I especially like that I could come and go as I please. I felt comfortable, clean and safe. Everything you could need was there. It reminded me more of a collective than a hostel. I will most definately stay there again. I look forward to it! Great location too. ”

- “ That's what a hostel should be like! A pool in this weather is awesome! Location not really in city, but directly next to street car stop, so downtown can easily be reached by public transport. Breakfast and dinner can be brought at the hostel. Only minus point: If you wanna cook yourself, there is enough cooking gear etc but hardly any/no plates, cups and cutlery! ”

- “ There was a new transportation from the Amtrak station to the Canal Street. I would like the hostel to update how to get to the hostel. The direction page does not include the information, so I walked from the station to the street with a big, heavy luggage. The number of bathroom is poor. ”

- “ What a great little place! It has heaps of character, friendly vibe & great breakfast. A little clicky with the communial areas. As a launch base for everything that's New Orleans it was perfect. The house cat was gorgeous. The staff were fantastic throughout my stay. Would highly recommend. ”

- “ I thoroughly enjoyed India House! I was a bit quiet and mostly used it as a launch pad for day time treks and just came back in the evenings to crash. I wish I'd spent more time socializing with other folk there, but it was my first hostel experience and I wasn't sure what to make of it. All in all, the room (8 person female dorm) was quiet at night and the other roommates were respectful and friendly enough. The staff was always available for a question and made me feel welcome. Good time! ”

- “ The hostel is pretty close to the french quarter, a short cab ride will get you back late night. The staff was friendly and the pool and home cooked meals are a huge plus! Very cool place to meet people and chill out. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a good time in a laid pack environment. Also the 24 hour desk is a huge bonus! ”

- “ Great communal atmosphere. All the amenities you would need, fresh coffee in the morning and decent food available 24/7. Friendly and helpful staff, and a very open and positive social environment. I felt right at home! ”

- “ I would not recommend booking through hostels.com as it does not allow you to ask questions. For example, for my stay I had the first two nights in a coed dorm, then three nights in an all male dorm. The coed dorm was 300% more acceptable than the male dorm. The coed dorm was well-heated, quiet, had enough power outlets, and a shared bathroom. The male dorm was a hellhole full of 21 year old drunken fools, it was cold, loud and had almost no power outlets; simple conversation would have helped. ”

- “ Great location, just down Canal street from the French Quarter. Our stay was short- only a night- but appreciated all the amenities. The showers were great, water pressure a little weak, but for the most part clean. Two complaints: 1. We booked a 6-bed room but were given an 8-bed room. 2. My bedding wasn't ready when we arrived and were never given to us by the time we were heading to bed. However I brought my own so it wasn't a big deal. Overall good experience. ”

- “ The India House Hostel was phenomenal. It surpassed all expectations. The community there is great, it is right on the Canal Street line, and they serve and awesome, cheap breakfast and dinner. The only complaint I had was noise- but that was an issue with the people in our building, not the hostel itself. We met some great people on the outside deck area and enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. I will recommend this place to everyone I know heading down the NOLA. ”

- “ The bedding was on the funky side. I put some of my own clothes over the pillow rather than sleep on it. The charm of the hostel made up for the light layer of grime that persisted over everything. ”

- “ Affordable hostel, located a few streetcar stops from everything. The staff was informative. Simona was very friendly. However, the rest were not. The frozen food was bad, but the fresh food seemed OK though we didn't try it. The kitchen was dirty with a lot roaches. The $5 towel we purchased had a big hole and the tall girl with glasses gave us a hard time getting a new one. The bed in the BLUES private room was damaged and uncomfortable. The blanket was old and hairy, not dirty. ”

- “ Staff is helpful as much as you can be. The hostel is good situated (20 mins by walk to downtown) in a peaceful street. The disposition is good to encourage socialization. The only problem was the lack of cleanliness : i don't know if they honestly do the housekeeping. ”

- “ I had a private room. It was really nice and clean. It can get really cold but they provided a heater in the room so that makes everything better. The bathrooms was pretty clean. The outdoor area is very nice and cozy with a pool that I didn't get a chance to use in that it was February when I went. They serve hot meals for a nominal fee 5-6 bucks. very close to the French quarters. the trolley is down the block from the hostel but the French quarters is within walking distance. no issues ”
