While I am used to Soviet style ineffiency, I moved one mattress from one bed to another, as they are uncomfortable, and moved it back and remade the bed. Upon leaving, a cleaning woman started shouting at my wife Emily and I that we had slept in every bed. She even telephoned the manager to complain. All of this was false. For this reason alone, I DO NOT RECOMMEND it. A hostel that lets its lowly staff shout at guests should not be a hostel. Disgusting. Appalling.

It's far from Sevastapol, but it is a /classic/ hostel, the way they were meant to be. If you wander into the small town nearby, you'll find a beautiful tourist town on a port, and a now de-classified former Nuclear submarine bus...rather cool.

Very big, but it is located very far away from everything...

interesting if you want to get the feeling of how the old Gulags were run, dictitorial staff, drab buildings, out of ther way and hard to find, misleading directions etc, good luck.
Re previous review: we made two bookings here. I should add that the room was very spacious, a room for four for the two of us! Also on previous review I did not mean to put 'Poor' cleanliness - a mistake! The hostel is clean.

The hostel is clean and the beds are comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, although Russian speaking only. The hostel is at the edge of Balaklava, but as easy to reach by bus, and still only 30mins walk from the sea (or you could take the regular bus), and during the day the area is quite pleasant, with hills just behind. The bathroom was wet on the floor, but there was hot water whenever we wanted it for the showers. Overall, the hostel is good for the price.
Location is extremely difficult to find. The taxi driver had to ask at least 10 people on the street in order to locate it. Fortuantely I speak a bit of Russian because none of the staff working speak a word of English. No heat in the room, damp, and a "mattress" that was about as comfortable as laying on a piece of plywood.

Actually located in Balaklava, on a hill 2 or 3 kilometers from the center. The structure is nice, but during our stay nobody of the staff could speak a single word of English... Staff could not provide a map of the village: there are some advises on the wall with bus timetables, very useful...if you can read Russian or Ukrainian. If staff was able to speak English, it would be a very nice hostel!

The hostel is far away from the beaches, harbor, village-center. One allways have to take a taxi or minibus to get anywhere. Staff speaks only very little english. Bonus is that it is probably much cheaper than hotels in Balaklava center.

as the hostel was advertised in english, we were surprised on arrival to find that no english was spoken by staff. this made it difficult to explain about our online booking and i believe that the deposit was not deducted from the fee. there was no information about the area made available, not even a map, so we had considerable difficulties finding our way around. all in all, compared with other hostels i have stayed in, this is one of the worst.
