This hostel was really nice, but not as student-friendly as we were thinking. It's a bit more expensive than we wanted, and not near many restaurants or other student hostels. The staff was great though: really helpful and some of them even spoke English! Rebecca, from USA ~ 8th Oct 2011

This hostel would never be my first choice. The staff was helpful, they have a great location, they had wifi (limited to the second floor lobby) and they seemed to be wanting to be more appealing to westerners. But, it was dirty and smelled bad, only one of their staff spoke english, the bathrooms were very chinese, and they didn't have a lot of recommendations of what to do in Chengdu. If you just need a place to stay for the night, this is great, but i wouldn't recommend it. Emily, from USA ~ 6th Oct 2011

John BC is just barely started to market to foreigners. If you want an alternative to the more foreigner hostels in town then this is the place.Be aware though that they are just starting down the road to upgrade. It could be cleaner and better kept. The owner and manager were very good to work with and they are open to feedback. The manager is the only one who speaks some English.Definitely a place for those who already speak Mandarin.Location is right across the street from the subway.Easy access Julie, from USA ~ 6th Oct 2011
