We had a nice stay at the Kameya Ryokan. The room was clean and comfortable, and even had a TV. The only problems we had were in communicating with the owner: we needed to cancel our reservation for the first night, and contacted him several times by e-mail, with no response. He had not checked his e-mail, but had no problem about not charging us for the canceled night. All in all, he was very kind, and his English is very good. The place is a little difficult to find (especially at night) and the directions could be a little clearer. But overall, a good stay for the money.

For security it would be very hard to get into the place. If you have a big bag you cant fit it into the lockers so you must trust the other people that are staying next to you.

An excellent location, in that a limo bus from Kansai takes you to a stop three minutes walking distance from the ryokan. A 1 minute walk from the ryokan takes you to the nearest subway station. A nice neighbourhood.

As backpackers, we felt a little out of place at this more couply ryokan, but it was a welcome change of pace after staying at more traditional backpacking hostels. This place is very quiet and has a midnight curfew, so it won't be for you if you're looking to get loaded on Spring Break. However, if you are looking for a peaceful place to get a good rest in relatively inexpensive private rooms, this place is great. It also gave us a chance to experience what a Japanese inn is like (floor mats, Japanese rooms, green tea in our rooms, etc). The owner is very friendly. This place is also very close to the aquarium.
