Very interesting to stay in an old synagogue. 3 bed private room was fine. Bathroom wasn't amazing, but was sufficientwater pools a bit while taking a shower. Bring towels & toilet paper. There was sufficient room heating & hot water. Staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly when I called en route from a taxi from the airport (when the driver was trying to massively scam me). Discount tickets to snow & ice festival were nice. Crystal, from USA ~ 15th Feb 2012

Staff was not very helpful. My room wasn't ready when I got there, so I waited. After a few hours, I asked again if it was ready, and it had been for a while, but they hadn't told me, so I wasted an hour of daylight (when it's sort of warm) sitting around for nothing. They're not familiar with all the buses that go to the Ice Festival. I was on the mezzanine in a dorm room, and the carpet looked like it'd never been cleaned. The door on my locker was broken. I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel - particularly because the staff are so friendly and helpful. My only criticism is that it is difficult to get a good night's sleep as the walls are paper thin and some fellow travellers can be rather inconsiderate as regards when and where they make a noise. Very unique and authentic hostel. Great location, staff was helpful, and a fun atmosphere. Private room with ensuite bathroom left a little to be desired, the bathroom especially. But overall a great stay in a fun city.

We had a problem leaving the hostel. We had arranged to have the front door unlocked at 6am to allow us get an early morning bus. However we found the door locked and no-one around to unlocked it.Eventually we had to force the back door and climb over a 4ft high locked barrier to get out.Definite a fire hazard.

Great hostel in an old synagogue. Close to the central pedestrian street and with early-morning food and fruit stalls just around the corner for a cheap, Chinese breakfast. The room was great and the staff spoke excellent English and helped us with everything as fast as they possibly could. They can also help with train-tickets for a very low fee (5 Yuan or thereabouts). Ask for good local food and they might show you to a very good restaurant two streets away, where they serve excellent food at Jens, from Denmark ~ 5th Aug 2011
