Very friendly staff- went out of their way to help me. Room nice and trendy bathroom. As far as cleanliness, looks in need of a 'woman's touch'. (There seem to be only men around.)and the main area needs wiping down, fridge stocked and a good clean. Would recommend however! Tania, from Australia ~ 12th Sep 2009

Very helpful staff. Even directed the taxi to the hostel over the phone. Tanya, from England ~ 21st Aug 2009

This is a good place if you like your privacy. Not too much communication amongst the travelers. The staff is really friendly and will help you out with many things like booking a train to another city, direct you to your destination, etc. They do need more staff, though. They're really close to really good street vendors, too! Christopher, from USA ~ 27th Jul 2009

It is a little bit far from downtown. However, a taxi to the bund is about 22 RMB. There is a metro station about 5-7 min walking distance. The room (double suite) is perfectly fine, a great deal for the price. Agustin, from Canada ~ 9th Jul 2009

The staff was extremely helpful! They even got me a cheaper rate on the train to Beijing than I had expected. The rooms were ridiculously nice for the price with stonework, glass showers, and great AC. Breakfast was superb and the internet is fast. We are going to stay here again on the return journey! This is an excellent place to stay!!! I have done plenty of traveling and stayed in many hostels, but Koala International Shanghai is the best yet. Everything from the rooms (very spacious, clean, and safe) to the inviting and extremely friendly staff (ask especially for Charlene, Richard, Xiaojiang, and Xiaozhang)are great. Plus, the surrounding neighborhood is vibrant and gives visitors a great feel for Shanghai. The metro is only a short walk away, and taxis are plentiful.
