Excellent location, 1 min walk from Chinatown (night market). Good cheap place to sleep, but that's about it. More like a budget hotel than hostel.

We stayed at 4 bed room, the room condition was ok. However, we have 1 suggestion for the attached bathroom, that is please install some basic necessity equipment for guests to place theirs clothes or toiletries.

The housekeeper, Mr Lye was a kind and caring man though he may look be rather reserve. In his quiet ways he would give good tips on shopping and transport.I would go and stay there again should I be back in Malacca.

directions confused everyone we asked as nobody knew what the address meant. it was further out than we were expecting but still 10 mins walk to the historic part (dutch area etc.). otherwise good with internet access, staff helpful for us with obtaining taxi. we found it hard to imagine spending more than one day in malacca.

Kota lodge is located at a very convenient location with respect all the main highlights of Melacca.....Chinatown, Clock Tower Square, A Famosa and St Patrick's Church. The staff members were very friendly. On the last day when we could not get a cab, the owner himself dropped us at the bus stop in his car.

I was at Kota lodge for 3 nights from 26-29 Dec., 2007. I was traveling with my 80 years old mother. It was our first time in Meleka and use hostel world. The room No.3 was exceptional with a Queen bed and a single bed. The balcony over looked a local market. From 7am, you can find papaya and guava at the front door. Because it is at the back of the Jonka Walk, they even came and escort us back to the hotel after dark on a rainy night which warmed my heart to the limit. Highly recommended for the price and personal services. Linda Laau

We couldn't use the internet because the owner never stayed there. In the morning it was too loud because of the market opposite the lodge. The room badly needs some proper cleaning!

The owner of the hostel is great and very helpful. You just have to be mindful that they have just recently started up and some aspects need a little polishing.

If you're hungry, make sure you speak to the owner about where to eat! (but he'll probably find you first!) There's a fantastic row of local restaurants just round the corner that are far cheaper and far tastier than those in the more commerical areas like Jonkers Walk. This hostel is only a 5-10 minute walk from all the major sights and is great value for money!
