Far from Manhattan, too noisy and very rude staff. The only thing: when in NY, you can also discover Brooklin, which is a great neighborhood.

Hi,

kind of insanely crowded residential space. even though we booked a 6-bed female, we got put in an 10-(actually 11)-bed co-ed room, which wasn't really a problem but doesn't say much for their organizing skills. everything got cleaned every day, though, there was free phone and internet (with a bit of a wait, but not too bad), and in general the place had a nice feel to it. neighborhood is a little alarming if you're not used to new york, but if you walk a bit there's a nice park and the subway

They TRY in their own nutty, ecentric way. Very few things actually work in that hostel, and they are always attempting to fix them and/or offering apologies. It should be made clear that they accept only cash and do not take credit cards at checkout time. At least there is air conditioning in the summer, which is more than can be said for many of the rooms in other hostels. To get to Manhattan is often a 2 or 3 subway transfer, and so is tiring. The immediate neighborhood is a little scary

nice hostel, espacially for this price. only big drawback are the bathrooms. there are way to less for number of beds what leads to long waiting times.

the Lafayette International Hostel was a great place to stay. I liked the fact that it was just a few steps away from the subway. The staff were all very friendly, although my assigned bed kept changing, I think because the staff weren't on the same page. But I did have a place to sleep every night.(thanks patrick), Very laid back atmosphere, cool travellers, very diverse. The neighborhood seems pretty safe. I would recommend staying here, if you don't mind the half hour commute to downtown.

Oasis of friendship and laid back attitude in a busy city and an ambigous, but characteristic neighbourhood.

The staff was rude, hard to find, and not at all helpful. The hostel itself is in a pretty crappy area and on the G line train, which necessitates a transfer to get to anywhere in Manhattan. There was no real space for everyone's belongings in the rooms, leading to a free-for-all pile-up of clothing and luggage all over the floor.

I thought it was very clean. There are more beds per room than it shows on the website and you may find that you reserved a mixed 6 person room and are in a single sex 10. Only the bedrooms are air conditioned and some not very well. I would stay here again as long as I didn't want to spend most of my time in Manhattan.
