Our first impression was that this was going to be the best place we'd stayed so far. It was a short walk from the main train station and was very clean. Unfortunately we were not warned about the construction. Jackhammers started at 7 am. Also the phone in the room is just for show. To make a long distance call you need to sit in the noisy lobby and use the cordless phone from reception. Would stay again if there was no construction.

The hostel was very clean and easy and friendly, although having one bathroom to share between the 14 people in our room was annoying because we periodically had to wait for up to 30 minutes just for simple things like brushing our teeth.

The Meininger was a great place to stay... the rooms were cheery and clean, the showers were hot, the breakfast was sufficient, the staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and always available, the hostel saved us time by selling city bus fare at the front desk, holding our luggage in their luggage room, and having a washing machine available. The location wasn't too bad, a little out of the way of the train station, but still convienent using the tram, or the Subway (Bahn) system. The ONLY Con... the clothes dryer is a joke, Remember to dump out the water in the pull out dispenser or your clothes will never dry... even so, we were up till 2AM drying ours. Overall... a great place and we would definately stay here again, we will definately be on the lookout for other Meininger Hostels to stay at in other european cities.

Suited us all perfectly. It was a bit out of the way, but you can get the tram from outside the door straight into the centre. Great holiday!!

This was our first stop and, first experience with hostels. We were in a 4 bed room for 3 days and everything worked well. We tended to retire early and had no problems with noisy neighbours. Breakfast was very generous. Staff knowledgeable and helpful.

IT was great!
I stayed in 8 beds room but during the winter, there were 5 empty beds.
Also, the location is perfect.
We could walk everywhere from the hostel and breakfast was just right.
