I expectyed something similar according to hostels price. The bed linen was clean it wasn't noisy. So I think all was OK.

Being living in Russia this place was pure nostalgie and in that scale even well equipped. Free morning-sauna was great. Can be recommended for all those who are interested in socialistic "architechture" and the other side of Tallinn.

Mahtra is good if you like cheap affordable accomodation BUT... its in quite an intitially intimidating sovietesque block location, staff only have rudimentary english skills (apart from one), they overharge you for washing, while we were there there was no hot water and our first room contained a barbershop chair and a bear skin hung on our bathroom wall! (smelly and old). Lookling back it was an enjoyable experience, not just seeing tallinn from a pretty medieval touristy persepctive, got a real feel for the area....

very nice place, and very cheap, a little bit far from old town but there is a direct bus.

One needs 4 (!) keys to get into one's room. I think it increases security, but the keys themselves should be better marked

Friendly and helpful staff, the single room is very large and comfortable. Great value!

The hostel is more like a hotel; there are no common areas. The service was friendly, nevermind the lack of lanquages. The hostel is located pretty far from town but its an easy drive if you travel by car. Good value.

Cheap, very cheap. Two wings of hostel. one is nice and new, the other is old and decrepit. Single rooms have TVs with lots of stations, and a sauna is inluded in the price of the hostel. Breakfast is cheap, and there's free internet available for many hours of the day. It is far away, but the #35 bus is basically free since no one checks your tickets. For a cheap good time, Mahtra is the place to go.

Although the location is very bad, the public transport (bus) is frequent en good (20 min. to the old town). The staff hardly speaks any Englisch. Not a hostel I would recomment. Positive: its cheap.
