A great place to stay if the sheets were clean, the towels were new, the room was swept and the people were smiling more. No breakfast, 10 dollars for storage bags during the day. The shower has to be fix. A lot to do in a nice house. great kitchen though but not my favorite International hostel : Chicago still has the beat grade ! Olivier, from France ~ 15th Aug 2011

The place is bland, boring, and the staff at best is tolerable.The staff don't know how to smile. They are blunt, bordering on rude.What's worse is that the place is very expensive.The value is not there with this place. Unfortunately, there are not many hostels in Minneapolis therefore, you're stuck.The male dorm felt and looked like jail.I don't recommend it I say avoid it if you can.

We are sorry that you feel unsatisfied with your stay. However, to address that our hostel is bland and boring, we feel that we should point out that we are located two blocks from Minneapolis's "Eat Street" district, four blocks from the famous Electric Fetus record store, and directly across the street from the Minneapolis Institute of Art, a free art museum open every day except Monday (there is also the Walker Art Center one mile from the hostel). On the point of the staff being "blunt, bordering on rude", it's true that if you ask us a question, we'll answer it in the most concise method possible. We apologize if the brevity and directness of our conversations was not to your liking. On the point of our prices, compared to other lodging businesses in the immediate area, our dormitory beds (approximately US$28 per person per night) are roughly one quarter of the price of a nearby hotel room. We are sorry that you felt the fifteen bed male dormitory looked and felt like a correctional facility. It's actually a remodeled, ballroom sized hall with fifteen beds in it. We don't know what could have put you under the impression that it looked and felt like a jail, especially considering that there are no curfews or lock out times and you are free to come and go as you please.

If you are hard pressed for money only then go there otherwise I wonder why anybody would go there. The manager behaved as if he was a Lord from the Victorian period. It's a bit far away from the downtown also, especially when it's easy to get better location for cheap in the downtown. The manager charges $10 for a bag kept for few hours even if you have to check in on the same day. There is no Hostels sign on the door as a result it's hard to locate.

We are sorry that you were not satisfied with your stay but it strikes us that "Lord from the Victorian era" is a bit hyperbolic, especially since the manager doesn't bow or wear a top hat. On the point of our location, we are a comfortably manageable one and one half miles from downtown, where the hotel rates are easily three to four times the cost of one of our dormitory beds. On the point of the US$10 luggage handling fee, it is a courtesy service to which we have assigned a monetary value. Further, we feel there is no need for the vulgarity and name-calling you've used in that part of your review.

It's cheap, and some of the staff are very nice and helpful... others not so much. The only available parking is on the street, but it seems pretty safe in that area. Sadie, from USA ~ 18th Apr 2011
