My first hostel experience, I would recommend it. Location at the bottom of Mt. Ulriken made it very easy to hike up and down the mountain from the hostel. Had to take a bus to downtown though, but the view from the back of the hostel was worth it in my opinion. Can't blame the hostel for the prices, I think everything in that country is just expensive. I understand it may not be a "tourist" season, but my train was getting in late so if I missed the time, I wouldn't have had any idea where to go because night staff isn't a guarantee Location was poor directions were unclear after bus stop after roommate had left, nobody came in and took out the used pillow and blankets, cleaned the floors, cleaned sink, etc. However, there were good things. Breakfast was included and served traditional Norwegian items. Staff was friendly. Kimberlee, from USA ~ 26th Nov 2011

The hostel is located in a residential area uphill, far away from the city center, but a 15mins bus ride makes it tolerable. Breakfast was perfect and the staff were just excellent. It was a comfortable & relaxing stay between day trips. Perfect for families tho.. Yunus, from Turkey ~ 7th Sep 2011

Great place to not only spend a night but also a few days. Best for people touring in cars where access and parking is good, and the Hostel is well sighnposted from the main road. There is a good supermarket right by. There is lots of public space in 3 different rooms and an oitside eating place. Well fitted ay in Bergenkitchen but only one fridge. Breakfast included is good value and nearly up to hotel standard. There is a bus service from town, but it is best to plan to spend the day in town. Jane, from Norway ~ 31st Jul 2011

location is good for the train (which we came in on), a little far from the airport, cab fare was 427 NOK to get to the airport. staff was great, very helpful with good advice on where to hike in the area. it's nice and quiet for sleeping :) and very convenient to mt. ulriken hiking and cable car. easy walk/tram into city center and bryggen. good breakfast and coffee and they were nice to pack our breakfast for early check out. Big hostel but very well organized and run. Great lounge and kitchen facilities. Distance from town can be an inconvenience but the bus service is very simple and efficient. Ulriken is at your doorstep to enjoy ... just keep a raincoat handy. Nigel, from New Zealand ~ 23rd Jun 2011
