The smell of nursing home in the room could have been taken care of.

-We didn't expect it to be a senior's residence. -Room was stuffy and smelly. -Bathrooms are very "hospital like" -Lift and hallway smells. -Expensive and far from downtown -Receptionist was rude when we asked for a refund. -I would recommend New College Residence -Also recommend priceline, 50 bucks a night for a 5 star hotel!

The hostel is located in a retirement home. They have several rooms (own bathroom + kitchen) which is part of the hostel. Free internet + computer.

This place was great although a little bit odd at first it is a joint halls of residence and a retirement home!!!! Once you get used to the zimmer frames and odd looks it is actually a pretty good place to stay. I was travelling alone and felt very safe here. It is right next to the subway so it was perfect for coming home late without fear of being a lone women in the city. The breakfast was satisfying, juice bagels, eggs sometimes bacon sometimes waffles, danishes. It was safe clean secure the only down side would be that the shower was brilliantly clean although the rooms were. As it is student halls and old people there is not much in the way of meeting people. However the staff on reception were very helpful!!!

Very nice rooftop patio if you can get out at night and see the Cn tower light up. FYI - Building is also an old age home so I hope old senile people don't freak you out.

I stayed in Rm 905 the first 3 nights (starting Feb 16) and the first night I was awoken at 1am (Sat Feb 17) by noise from my neighbour. S/he was watching a movie and the volume was so high it woke me up. I did not fall asleep again. I gave this feedback to the front desk and I was told that my message would be given to the security guard, who would be patrolling the 9th floor. The next night (Sat), there was a party on the floor starting at 10pm to 3:30am. I did not sleep at all. Sunday was a miserable day for me. Where was the security guard? I had the inconvenience of moving to the 5th floor for the remaining 3 nights. It was a quieter floor. Julie Toh

As the place also caters for very old people it is natural that it is not much fun for younger guests. For instance, watching T.V. after 10 p.m. can be a problem as the noise is not welcomed by the old folks. But apart from this, the old ones are nice people and the hostel is friendly, comfortable and just a few steps away from Duffering Subway station.

This place is an interesting one. Part retirement home, part student residence, part hostel. The location is conveniently a few steps to the subway. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, there was a big mess in the hallway as a result of some underway construction. The construction crew didn't even bother to put their toolboxes away overnight. I guess this will be a temporary issue though.
