  • My wife and I had a clean, very efficient, and modern private room for two. Staff was great! When we asked for a change to the 2nd story (instead of the 3rd), they were very accommodating. Our room had a window on the street--very nice. The only problem we had was that for the first of two stays, we had a room with a very strong cleaning-agent perfume scent. But the kitchen, lounge, & bathrooms were large, clean, and modern with lots of utilities and dinnerware. Showers worked well, too.

  • Here is located at the lovely downtown of Nanaimo. A supermarket nearby was a plus! Thanks to the clean, spacey, and warmly heated common area/dormitory, I could get really relaxed. I request only to update the Map/direction of this site to tell how to get to this place from Departure Bay Ferry terminal.

  • Madeleine and Angie were extremely friendly and helped us a lot. Two drawbacks however: - We had to move our stuff at 11.30 pm, because we were given the wrong room. - They booked a whale watching tour for us in Cowichan Bay. Upon arrival there it turned out our credit card was charged more than we were told when the tour was booked. The tour operator gives a discount that Painted Turtle does not pass on to their customers (like most other hostels do), but keeps for themselves. Sophie Heringa
