This hostel is the worst hostel I've ever stayed in my life. Hygiene is poor both in the rooms and bathrooms. In the room, there were food, dirty sheets, porn magazines, a soccer ball, new condoms, blank DVDs, Lonely Planet guides, etc. The room was not clean for a long time - The DVD receipt shows May 2008. The staff also needs training: on a Sunday day, they recommended going to the Fremantle markets on Monday - however, it is closed on Mondays!

Only complaint was that I was bitten by bed bugs all week. Staff DID try to sort out the problem, but the problem still persisted.

Do not arrive in the middlle of the night. NIght staff is not able to find your reservation and when you want to checkin at 4 am and want to pay for an extra night they will do that but then you are advised to check out again at 10 am !!! and check in again at 2 pm as they cannot find your reservation for the next day. Day staff is extremly helpful though and books you all kind of tours.

I booked and paid a deposit for a female dorm, and they put me in a mixed dorm then charged me extra for it.

The reception staff were very rude and didn't even tell us when we checked in that the YHA had a pool or where it was.

Clean, but wireless internet is five dollars for two hours which is stupid. The speed was flaky sometimes. Also, there are many long term residents, but that seems to be the case at all the hostels due to WA's economic boom. Unfortunately, I didn't find a good alternative. I would stay here again because it was clean, but I'd like to try to find something with free wifi.

A nice hostel, however they seemed to have problems with reservations. I was not the only one to arrive to find they could not find my booking. I think I only got a bed because I luckily had a copy of the booking. Location is good for perth but it is right next to a railway line and trains run well into the night, so it takes a bit of getting used to.
