If you don't mind taking the bus out to the burbs, it's great. The beach is absolutely gorgeous! Would go back if I came back to Christchurch. Take two city buses, not the shuttle from the airport. Save yourself $28!! Take one bus to the city centre and then 5 or 40 to the backpackers. It stops right across the street. The people there are great! Thanks to everybody!

The hostel is run by a elderly couple, which is quite unusual when you expect a backpacker behind the front desk. Upon arrival you are required to pay for your sheets (unless you bring your own sleeping bag), and then get to watch these people make your bed for you...very odd, especially because the youngest staff member was not under 60. The atmosphere an look & feel of the (small) hostel is between your gran\'s house and a retirement home. Internet is available (2 PC\'s) for approx. 4 doll Lindsey, from Netherlands ~ 21st Jan 2012

The Hostel was trash.Our room was unfinished and dirty.It was a loud hostel and I over heard the owner talking about charging someone for a private room because the dorm room was empty.A very shady hostel.
Hi Derek, What you overheard the owner saying was that we could rent out a 6 bed dorm to 2 people as a private room, for the price of a private 2 bed room as there was a request for a private room. If there was a request for 2 beds in a dorm then we would have sold 2 beds at dorm rates. It is a very shady practise to eavesdrop on someone else's conversation and then put it into print. The room you rented has recently been insulated and re lined. The flooring has yet to be finished. I apologise if you found the room dirty and I would have certainly done something about that if you had bought it to our attention while you where staying.
