I recently just got done staying at The Pura Vida hostel in Rio for a week and absolutely loved every minute of it. The hostel was perfect. It was in a great location, and was very very clean. It was also a great place to meet not only locals, but other travelers from around the world as well. Natalie, and Isadora The 2 girls at the reception, were extremely helpful to us. They spoke great english and helped set us up with a few different tours that we did around rio that were awesome, They also Jordan, from USA ~ 14th Mar 2012

The hostel is close to a pacified favela in a beautiful house. The staff was very nice and helpful and both guys spoke English. In the room were many stains on the wall and on the matress. You have to enter the girls' doorm to get to the female bathhroom which was impractical. Lisa, from Germany ~ 25th Aug 2011

It was very very noisy while we were there. Also, too many steps if you have a moderate amount of luggage. It's also at the entrance to a favela, but there are lots of cops around. The rooms are very sparse, and we had to actually go through a dorm room to access the bathroom, which was inconvenient. The staff were very nice, though. And it's quite close to Copacabana. Mary P, from Canada ~ 21st Jul 2011

It was a great hostel. The only thing that I would like to point out is that there aren't enough kitchen supplies. one has to constantly ask staff to get stuff from a different room. Isabel, from Colombia ~ 18th Jul 2011

As far as hostels go, this is a pretty decent building. It's located on a sketch street, but is only a 2-3 min walk from Copacabana beach. The "free breakfast" isn't really a breakfast at all. It's crackers and tang. Overall, not a bad experience for the cost. Adam, from USA ~ 30th May 2011
