Sorry for bad review but (1) We paid Ranjit 3050rps for an airpotr pick up that costs 2000. We were left waiting in the airport for a taxi who didn't have a clue where he was going and stopped SIX times to ask directions (at 1.30am in the morning). (2)Ranjit charged me 200rps to make one telephone call to book a cab the next day (the same price as the actual cab journey and FIVE times more expensive than making a phonecall from the Hilton Hotel! (3) We booked and were charged for TWO rooms but were given one room with a double bed and a single camp bed (4) He said I hadn't booked through hostelworld that I had booked direct with him and did not accept I had paid a deposit. Obviously I could not recommwent this place even though the accomodation was fine and the other lady working there is lovely. Unfortunately the worse thing about anjit's Ambalama is Ranjit !!!

If you arrive at night, not many taxi drivers will take you all the way to the hostel, because the police and the army block the entire neighbourhood. The hostel is way out of the centre.

We requested airport pick-up to be taken to Ranjit's Ambalama and it was a nightmare... It's quite far out of Colombo and the driver wasn't sure where he was going and even after finding the street it took us about 10 minutes to locate the house. It's 2 houses, one belonging to Ranjit's family and the one next door is where the guests stay. I felt quite intrusive going into their living room in order to eat meals. Ranjit can speak English very well but we had problems communicating with all the other staff there. If you want to stay in a house and have your own space I'd recommend it (they have free wireless internet) but not if you'd prefer to stay closer to town to see the sights.

Hello team, hereby my comments about the property I stayed. The simple room we used was very expensive and no room service any more. The owner was very unkind. I never would book that property in future. yours sincerly Carius from Germany

-no hot water -extra charge for every phone call -unreasonably high breakfast prices -could not eat at the dining table -the staff rewrote a already payd bill, adding lines and changing prices -unfriendly service -low hygiene standards -barking dog
