If this was close to civilization it would a decent place to stay however u HAVE to have a car. its in the middle of the woods w/ no hiking trails/ways to take advantage of the surroundings. literally nothing but a nice view. If you dont have a vehicle they charge 20 euros each way if for pick up at Cecina station, a PER PERSON fee. My advice... pay the 50 something euro charge to stay in pisa instead. cheaper and less hassle.

The refuge was the best place we could have hoped for to start our Italian vacation! The staff is amazing, as well as the food and our room!

BE WARNED: This place is very isolated and at the end of a long, rutted driveway. We were told multiple times that dinner was free. Dinner was nice, but simple (eg. soup). Late on our last night it was demanded that we pay 40 euro per meal. The owner said there had been a \"misunderstanding\" and that the price was set out in a sign in the kitchen (we checked - no sign). Given the late hour and isolation, we had little choice but to pay. We left feeling ripped off and intimidated.

The road to the place are really bad. And we are from a country known for terribel roads. The food, breakfast and the only dinner we ate, was poor. Only dry bisquits for breakfast and a small portion of jam. But the location was fine and peacefull.

If we have known that you have to a Buddist munk or similar, we had not chosen this stay. You must make it clear that it´s not a regular hotel, that you couldn´t see on the internet. We had to find another hotel wich made trip more expensive.

Whilst the property was in an interesting location, access was difficult because of long unsurfaced access track. This track may be impassable in wet conditions unless in a four-wheel vehicle (we had to push vehicles up steep slope). A rutted surface resulted in loaded vehicles undersides touching track surface frequently. We booked a four bed, three bed and two bed room, each with ensuites, but were provided with a five bed and a four bed room with only one shared shower-room for 9 of us. We considered the evening meal to be a little expensive for what was provided, although it was enjoyable. Breakfast was acceptable. This was a very interesting place but its remoteness is not for the faint hearted. A good base for walking and relaxing but not really suitable if you want to tour. Dogs belonging to the house owners were allowed to foul the areas surrounding the house so you had to be careful where you walked. I only make these comments so others know what to expect. I really liked the place and the owners. The remoteness resulted in a fabulous view of the night sky because of little light pollution.

This is a nice place if you are after the rustic tuscan feel. We were disappointed however, that it was so far away from Pisa and so difficult to get to. There was no indication when booking that it is 1.5 hrs away from Pisa and you either need a car to get there or pay the owner 20 euros to get picked up and dropped off! Not great for backpackers.

We were made very welcome at the Rifugio. It was different to our expectations - perhaps more suited to hippies than arthritic hippies! And the drive along its rough track would have tested a Chelsea Tractor let alone a Nissan Micra. Nevertheless we look back on our stay with great fondness.

This accomodation was completely misrepresented on your website It requires a 4 wheel drive to safely get to it. The owner was far from helpful and instructions were contracictory and confusing. Our passports were taken off us and we felt that they were held to ransome until we paid rather too much for a meal her friends cooked. The breakfast offerred was tea or coffee only as there was no food in the house. All together an experience I would not want to repeat. Very dissatisfied with the accomodation, the description on your website and the whole experience
