For my purpose, the location was ideal and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Although the lobby was lively, the noise always died down by 11pm. My biggest complaint is the late night smell of cigarette smoke and foul sewer odor coming from the drain in the bathroom. The mildew smell was so disgusting in my first room, I asked to be moved. Staff are great, very helpful. Dorm room is clean even if a little small. Common showers are great, common toilets a little dodgy, both locks were broken, but other than that, no complaints. This place is a little out of the way, but still very near all the sights. It's only a few stops to the People's Square by subway. I was surprise to experience the warm welcome from staff, more so the owner. My son recommended me to stay here so I could have easy access to the Subway and shopping. It was worth the stay. Thanks to all for making my stay at Shanghai Koala Garden House safe and welcoming. Everyone was very helpful, even the morning when I was leaving for the Airport, I ask one of the Staff to assist me with my travel to the Airport Terminal, the Staff immediately assisted me. I have been a regular visitor at the Koala Garden House for the last two years. I really like it here because I feel like I am at home...and I really mean that! The location might be quite far out from the main city, but the rooms and the atmosphere is definitely worth coming back. They offer free wifi in rooms, and free bath towel to shower. Loved the location - great park nearby - close to metro stations, good shopping.The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were well maintained.Would definately recommend the Koala to others travelling to Shanghai as a reasonably priced, centrally located accom spot.Bonus + was the bar and restaurant - good food, good price and lovely atmosphere.
