A hotel is very well situated, very near walking of the Bund and of the street Nanjing. It preserves its noble air of some years ago, although the rooms destined to travellers with under budget, would need a reform. Anyway it is a recommendable hotel, due to its good situation, to the kindness of the staff, and to a very nice bar to take you a cold beer and some peanuts, after a long day.

This is not really a 'hostel' in the traditional sense - more the staff rooms of the hotel converted into guest rooms, there is not really a lot of mixing between people since it is more a hotel really but the rooms are big, the service was good and generally a nice place, room service was apalling with my slice of tomato being bigger that my burnt black burger but hey thats not why were there, housekeeping did leave our door unlocked one day but were very apollogetic when we mentioned this to them.... The resto connected to the hotel is top class but a tad expensive. but generally this is a very nice to stay if you are looking for budget accomodation with a first class feel - ideal for couples!!! although you will have to push the beds together!

The Location is amazing and would still stay here if you are new to the city or just arriving by plane. There are tons of cheap hotels out of town I mean around 15USD a night and a cab accross town is only 3usd. basically you are paying for location of the bund which is just one part of shanghai

This place seems kind of expensive, but it's certainly got "character." This mostly comes from the old style architecture and interior design, which was pretty cool.

Beautiful old hotel, great location almost next to the river, my room was lovely BUT I think since I paid a discounted rate I got the room behind the motor room on the sixth floor, I woke up often due to the whirring noise. Beautifully clean, but had three cockroaches visit me, suppose that has to be expected when next to a river. Would stay again but would request a room that is not behind the lift.

We absolutly loved Pujian YH, or Astor Haose hotel which it calls itself now. The staf was friendly, security was unoprotchable, location superior and one can feel its history in every corner of its magnifisint arcitacture. If you youu want to stay at the same plase as Einstein, Russel or former presedent of the U.S. Grant sleept while staying in Shanghai this is the place.

Staff wasn't "warm" but extremely efficient. The character and location were great! For the price, I would never stay anywhere else in Shanghai

Don't be confused when you walk into the grand lobby, it is a YH! Treat yourself and feel like royalty for a few days. Twin room ensuite was massive, no AC but didn't need it. TV, phone, all the amenities. staff speak pretty good english and location is 5 mins from the Bund. Highly recommended.
