i am all about the authentic experience but the neighborhood was terribly sketchy, be sure to keep an extra eye on all of your things. the facilities were clean and nice and the staff wonderful, but the location was a good 40-50 kuai taxi ride to anywhere worth going. Apart from the ususal in Shanghai, China this place has the following attributes to offer; 1. faulty door lock 2. holes in window (thats right, missing pieces of glass) 3. rattling air-cond. 4. broken showers (no water for 3 consecutive days) - 3rd level 5. A Barbie sticker on my door for the feel good factor I would spend an extra $1 - $5 a day in future to find a better abode. But wait there is more; I waited 95 minutes for breakfast which was on par with KFC. Thats not fast good! Simon, from Australia ~ 11th Jul 2009

Great place. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. We even went out to lunch the first day I was there. Location is an interesting spot with the market but a nice location. You get the authentic shanghai experience. Highly recommended. Colin, from USA ~ 26th Jun 2009

I spent 6 days in this good hostel. Do not expect a luxious place, but this is a very convenient hostel in a popular area of Shanghai. Go there if you want to see what's a real street market... Also special mention to the lady from the desk for her nice smile! I'd recommend and/or go back to this hostel. Samuel, from Belgium ~ 9th Jun 2009

The staff at this hostel are some of the kindest I have met while globe trotting. They truly make you feel at home and care for you like a guest in their own abode. There is a communal kitchen, reasonably priced laundry, metro about 5 minutes walk and a day and night market that spans for blocks at your doorstep. We stayed twice while traveling in China and will definitely return. Thank you Sleeping Dragon for making our trip to a happy one! Hostel was quaint and relaxing. Staff were friendly and helpful. I originally reserved a cheap room without a bathroom, but got upgraded to an en-suite for free, when my room was unavailable. It was noisy at nightime with fireworks going off in the streets for spring festival. Location is ok, but the metro station nearby is poorly served, with trains only about every 10 minutes.
