Surf City Hostel in Los Angeles, United States

Although this hostel is located right on the beach, it is also right underneath a very busy and loud bar, which is just one among many in a long strip of them. Good if you're looking for a night out, but not exactly an ideal place to stay if you just want a place to relax and sleep. The plusses are the convenient beach location and the bike rentals (we rented two bikes for the entire day for just $20 and biked all the way to Venice Beach), and also the friendly staff. The hostel itslef was ok but no where near up to the standard of the other hostels I stayed in across the USA. Our room was very noisy as the hostel is situated above a restaurant/club and as there was no air conditioning we had to sleep with the windows open. The location was nice but if you really want tostay on a beach I'd recommend Santa Mocia over Hermosa. In general the staff were good except Belude who is frankly a rude bully... and thank god Miguel has left the hostel! Eleanor, from England ~ 11th Sep 2009
