I found Happy Family hostel to be a decent place to bunk when in Taipei. John and the staff are very warm and do the utmost to make their guests feel at home. the rooms aren't like the Hilton, but they are good enough.

Passable, no more. The owner is indeed friendly, the facilities are old. Good location near Taibei main station.

My room was very small, but clean enough and adequate. Fair enough for the price I paid. I would agree with the comments that the place is hard to find once you arrive. John's directions are good though to get from the airport to the Circle K (I think that's what the shop next door was called?) though - but where to from then?. John was a genuinely nice fellow though and very helpful. Great location - next to MRT and from there you can get anywhere.

Mr. Li was very friendly and helpful. The directions to the hotstel he sent via e mail were excellent. I did see some mouse droppings and there was a huge cockroach, and that turned me off a bit.

The owner, Mr Lee is really a very nice person. You may have a talk with him when both of you have time. You can get most information from him cause he is a experienced hostel runner for 22 years! The location of the hostel is very good, only 5 minutes to the Taipei Station (Railway, train and shuttle bus to the airport) There are some restaurant close to the hostel, you don't need to worry about the food. There are several public telephone and one convinient shop right outside the hostel. You can buy the phone card right inside the convinient shop.

I wish I could say I stayed here. I got off the train and walked out the East exit 3, walked straight and found the building with HF all over it. Unfortunately for me, the owners have relocated (this wasn't mentioned on their website either). So I walked around for two hours in the area where the other HFs are supposed to be but I couldn't find them or any signs indicating they were nearby. By that time I was soaked (it rained all day) and just found the closest hotel with a room. They could really help by providing the address of the other locations in chinese or better yet, put something on their website. HF1 would have been a great deal because it is literally right beside the train station...or it used to be.

I recently come back to Taiwan from Europe and stayed with Taiwan Hostel Happy Family again. Its location, staff/owner (Mr. Lee), security and price were excellent - a convenient and very safe & quiet place for lone traveller. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here. Mr. Lee thanks again for your kind hospitality. KC
