This was my second stay at The Backpack--both visits were very enjoyable. I only have one recommendation--that individual lights be installed for each bed in the 8-bed dorm. The dimmer light is great but it doesn't get bright enough at night.

Had a most enjoyable stay here. The only negative was how cold the rooms were. I realise weather was very bad but unless you were under the bed clothes, the room was freezing. A wardrobe in room would have also been useful but definitely a great standard hostel.
I loved my stay...too short cos I have a relative in cape town and I leave tomorrow for europe. Hope to be back.Will certainly recommend!

I had read in my guide that the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed to find this was not the case. One girl, a trainee was very friendly, but knew very little. The rest were a bit surly and seemed bored by there jobs. The doormen/security were friendlier than the travel desk and reception. I will say though, it was immaculately clean & had a great location. Not a great place for solo traveler's though.

great place - had a ball! close to all the action but still quiet if you like your sleep.
Couldn't fault it in any way. We loved the atmosphere, staff and location, and thought and hot water bottles for each resident was a lovely touch. Fabulous!
Very nice atmosphere
Lovely staff and a beautiful facility with a really great bar and restaurant. The staff are SOOO helpful and friendly they'll book tours, answer questions etc. There is a wide range of age groups staying here lending to the character of the place.
