Staff were very friendly and inviting! The hostel has a very welcoming atmosphere. It is also quite close to Dali Old Town (5min walk). Jonathan, from Canada ~ 14th Apr 2012

At 49 kuai a night, the single room was the cheapest accomodation in Dali outside of dorm style digs. The room was nice, even though the bed was a little hard and uncomfortable. The shared sitting room was great, the one problem was that for two out of my six mornings at the hostel, there was no hot water in the shower. The staff are great, they go out of their way to be helpful, provide tips for sightseeing, arrange bus tickets, also provided medicine when I was sick.Thumbs up! The place was excellently run, very kind and attentive, providing all kinds of services for very reasonable rates. The location just outside the old city makes it perfectly convenient and extremely quiet and relaxing at the same time. The single room was fully functional and nicely arranged. Only problem is that I got stolen a bit of money in great part because of my carelessness, but it was an unfortunate black spot in the otherwise excellent experience. I found the Lily Pad to have one of the most charming and comfortable vibes out of any hostel I have visited in China. The staff there is almost too nice, the food is amazing, the dogs are cute, and the rooms are comfortable. It is a big old Chinese home and I felt right at home. It's a quiet hostel which is nice. If you want it to be even more quiet, ask for a room not over the courtyard. However, it's a very quick walk to Dali's Old Town. LOVED IT! Meredith, from USA ~ 15th Aug 2011

The staff is very helpfull in thinking with you to solve your travelproblems. The manager speaks English fluently. The whole staff (on 9-13 August 2011) is very friendly. It is a good place to relax, because it takes a bit of a time to get a lovely breakfast. That will force you to relax. I think you will find the real China in this spot. Great place and very helpful for advice on what to do and where to go in Dali. The owner also went out of her way to get me on the right path to shaxi. Nicholas, from England ~ 1st Jul 2011
