A laid-back & homely hostel a short walk from Melbourne Museum & near stop 13 on Tram no 96. Wireless internet is $15 for 24hrs. Adorable cat on site. Cardkey for room didnt work on my 2nd day, only got it replaced after 2nd change, that's walking up 4 flight of stairs 3x for nothing. Many experienced the same problem. Gotta do something abt this pls. Otherwise, good stay. Muhammad, from Malaysia ~ 6th Nov 2009

I loved the nunnery. It was very comfortable and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I loved the en suite washroom attached to my room. Not having to shower in a cubical was great. I will definitely stay there again. Jennifer, from Australia ~ 30th Aug 2009

It was extremely cold in the computer area to the point where I couldn't type my emails and such. The one bathroom for the 13 people that I shared a room with was absoultely horrible and dirty. The first staff member to check me in was super awesome, all of the others weren't as helpful and kind. There didn't seem to be much happening around the weekend you have to go outside to reach the laundry and kitchen facilities. Given that I came during winter and it was cold, that wasn't so ideal. A friendly and welcoming hostel with genuine character. In a reasonably quiet location but close to the shops, cafes and restaurants of Brunswick Street and the CBD. Recommended. Richard, from England ~ 19th Jan 2009

This hostel is easily one of the best I have stayed in even including those in Europe. It's full of character and is more like staying in a guest house with magnificent interiors, a homely kitchen and great places to congregate (a cool courtyard and a nicely appointed 'sitting room'). It's just off the CBD edge near the Carlton gardens and its close to Brunswick Street where there are heaps of bars and restaurants. Its the best place to be when you want to be really close to the city b Karl, from Australia ~ 13th Jan 2009

Security was a real issue, people could get in and out of the hostel, we even had two people staying one night in unused bunk beds they obviously didn't pay for. Our 12bed dorm was a mess, partly cos of the exploding backpack of others. They really should clean the dorms better and make people responsible for their mess. We got out of there as soon as we could. David, from Netherlands ~ 30th Dec 2008

The location is perfect to walk in the city. The staff had been friendly, but not very helpfull with things like airport transfer. The hostel was clean, but the kitchen has only little opening hours and there could be more toilets and showers. Christina, from Germany ~ 4th Dec 2008

The Nunnery is in a lovely, enormous terrace quite close to Fitzroy where there are lots of cafes/bars and clothing shops to keep you busy. At The Nunnery they supply you with free breakfast (bread and jam/peanut butter and coffee/tea) on Sundays it's free pancakes! Apparently they have free dinners on some nights, not sure which ones we were only there for the weekend. I'd definitely recommend it. Janine, from Australia ~ 14th Nov 2008
