I stayed the second time in this Hostel! I really like it. But last time it was much more cleaner than this time!

My experience at Shiralee was perhaps the most unusual I have had in the past decade of travel. We arrived at 7:40 am to find the door locked. We knocked and someone let us in. The employee on duty informed us she needed one more hour of sleep, so we sat in the lobby while she completed her beauty sleep. Once she awoke, she proceeded to log on to all the computers, and then she indicated she first needed to eat her breakfast. We were exhausted after over 36 hours of air travel and just wanted to sleep. Couldn't she have let us in the room and allowed us to pay when she was ready? On the last day I checked my luggage in the locked shed, and then the staff decided to leave! Consequently, I had no way to get my belongings. My airport shuttle left without me, my sister and I got separated, and I missed my flight. I will be submitting a similar review to Trip Advisor and other travel services so guests know to have no expectations of Shiralee Hostel.

It was an ok hostel decent space to put your things. they tried to move me from one room to another mid week at night instead of just putting someone else in the empty bed... not the brightest

The rooms & bathrooms were clean but the common areas & kitchen were really dirty. And there was not nearly enough cutlery or dishes. Very young crowd too.

Don't stay at this hostel if you want to sleep before 3am. Our small room was next to the courtyard, where people were very drunk and noisy until very late! The kitchen and lounge were pretty dirty and the staff weren't that friendly. Not enough showers for the number of people.

This hostel is unclean and has a serious BED BUG issues. I stayed in room 16 for 3 nights in dec 2007. Two weeks later the 40 bed bug bites from the SIRALEE bites on my legs are still very ichy. I was overcharged on arrival. Given two singles not one double. The fan and light in the room did not work and they refused to fix. When I complained about the bed bugs they said that room and the hostel has had problems before. Other problems include the spa is not working and even if it was it in in a poky dirty park of the garden, the kitchen was always dirty and is very small. The outdoor area was ever grown. The showers are really bad and dont have anywhere for you to get changed plus there is no privacy as the shower screen are almost clear and people in the hallway can see in. The room was dirty. The location is poor, others in Northbridge are better. I recommend the Underground Backpakers, much cleaner and better location and good pool and bar and kitchen. Shiralee is the worst hostel I have ever stayed at. Please for your own sake stay elsewhere, the only good thing about this place is leaving it.

Second stay, second thought. We lost one piece of clothing, because the staff took everything from the line and put it into one big basket. The floor was not swept for a whole week. We observed a pill laying in the middle of the aisle. Two laundry machines were not working. For 1$ you get only washing powder for ONE washing! Nobody felt like doing their own dishes (it's better in other places). Even the owner gave me his spoon because he was too lazy. At least it's quiet and the beds are good.
