would love to see some recycling, SKYPE and updated computers, and a bit closer to food and groceries... but it is truly an all-around good place.
Izzy, Unfortunately we have tried the recycling thing before, but the regulations are very tight for this style of rubbish. Everything must be rinsed and labels taken off. The council decided that our rubbish was not CLEAN ENOUGH! So they took away the bins. Whilst most people would like to utilise this facility, some don't which stuffs it up for all of us (the whole washing our rubbish thing). SKYPE? With our computers being in the TV room SKYPE would only add noise whilst people are trying to watch TV and this would definitely cause problems! Being that we are essentially a big house, we don't have any other areas to put our computers. Thanks for your thoughts. Travel safe - Hopper

A nice friendly and social hostel in a quiet suburb of Perth, although not ideal for single female travellers returning later at night due to the walk from the city. A great place for relaxing whilst still having a bit of a chilled party atmosphere. Weekly BBQ was a good deal and good way to meet others. The owner/manager Hopper was welcoming and helpful re: travel advice in WA. Other reception staff however, weren't always very friendly or welcoming. Overall though I'd recommend to others.
Andrea, Yes, the location being residential does have its Pro's and Con's. Mostly for the positive though. Sorry my support staff may have not been as helpful. Will have a quick chat with them. Have fun on the rest of your travels - Hopper

This hostel looks a little different and certainly could be better than others but the bad outweighs the good. Staff extremely unfriendly, unhelpful. Ladies bathroom was fairly grotty just after was meant to be cleaned, place generally quiet and lacking in atmosphere. The noise from the bathrooms echos to the rooms. Not pleasant. Lots of info on tours and sidetrips. Rooms, toilets, and kitchen were very clean. A bit far from the city for some but it's about 3 blocks to a free bus that takes you around. Very mellow hostel, ideal for my trip but maybe too chilled out for some.

Pleasant and helpful staff. Quiet area/location which was about 25 min walk to CBD. Simple rooms which were adequate and comfy. Would recommend to friends and would use again myself.

This is a fantastic chill out hostel. The perfect place to stay if you just want to relax with a nice staff and a good atmosphere but if you want to party this is not the hostel for you. I loved staying there though.
Rosemary, Whilst we do not "party", as you discovered there is always things to do around the hostel with our movies nights, BBQ and trips down into town. We decided a while ago to drop the party atmosphere and it has been a great decision. We have so many people arrive who have had nothing but bad experiences in other places due to continual noise all through the night. Not fun really? Glad you enjoyed your time with us. The Wiches Hat is on a quiet residential road, guests abide by quiet after 10.30pm rule so no problems getting to sleep. A supervisor is always on duty if any problems arise. The only down side is that if you stay in the front dorms you need to walk through the kitchen in your night wear to get to the toilet and showers. There are also no locks on any of the room doors so guests can access all areas.
Ismene, We have tried many things for the whole room key problem. Only guests have access to the code for the front gate and door so this keep the general public from walking through. Keys were once given out but we had continual problems with people losing them and locking each other out of rooms! It was decided to put the lockers in each room so your personal belongings could be kept safe. Anyone who is not resident must report to management on arrival - just so we know who is around. We have had no problems since this was put in place and feel it is the best combination that keeps everyone happy... and not locked out of there room. Travel safely - Hopper

Really nice hostel, perfect if your looking for a quiet, chilled out place with great facilities and friendly staff. It was really clean and tidy, close to the city and other amenities. A tad bit pricey and very quiet, but if thats what your looking for then this is the place to go. I will definately be going there again.
Brian, Had a read of your comments. Thanks for the good thoughts. Prices have been mentioned previously, but we like to think our service and facilities are more than worth it. The Internet is cheap, movie nights on the Tuesday with free cake, Air-con rooms, beds made prior to arrival and of course the cleanliness factor and non party atmosphere. I know others around town do not offer this for a very similar price so in comparison we are happy and confident with our rates. Enjoy the rest of Australia - Hopper
