Tupiniquim Hostel - Hostel

How about staying at the best hostel in Rio de Janeiro for a very very affordable price ??

I mean, are you really willing to pay up to double the price so you can stay in some dumb-dirty hostel just because it is like 100 meters nearer Ipa...

Very good, though the last night was spoiled by lots of noise inside and outside the hotel, and I had an early start. The staff were extremely helpful.

Good breakfast with fruit, cakes, cheese. Good facilities inc. bar, games, tv room. Friendly staff and friendly guests (although guests speak mainly portuguese/spanish only). Central location although the side street it's on can be hard to locate at first. Downsides: noisy! you can hear everything going on in the common area from some of the rooms on second floor and will most likely get awoken every morning by noise. Also, bathrooms could be cleaned more regularly.

The owner is a dishonest slim bag of the worst kind. Nothing more needs to be said.

Staff were very helpfull but had several items robbed on me in the fridge, on a coupe of occassions and you have to travel down two flights of dangerous stairs to go to the bathroom from your doem which at night is very inconvienient

Well what can i say..... I would like to start by saying that this is the best hostel i have stayed at in the world and it all comes down to two factors. The owner and the staff that work there. This is a hostel that goes way beyond your expectations to make your stay in Rio the most fullfilled it could possibily be. One staff member even went out of his way on his day off to organise a mini bus to take some of the people staying there to a remote beach that would not be assesable for the average tourist and then backed it up that night by taking us all nightclubing till the early hours of the morning! We only booked this hostel becuase we arrived a week early into Rio and couldn't check into our hotel for another week, although when we did check into our hotel we found ourselves up at the hostel every night because we missed it! Eliseu, Tábata and Nina you guys are an assest to this hostel and i thankyou for making my stay in Rio a great one. See you next year!

Room not cleaned for 7 days during stay. Pretty grim when you consider the South America policy of putting paper in the bin, not down the loo!

Excellent breakfast, with tropical fruit (papaya, mango, melon, pineapple...), muesli, ham and cheese and home made cakes. Very good location, close to metro and buses. It feels safe to walk even at night. Very friendly staff. Some of them are monolingual but have good paralinguistic skills and communication is not a problem. There is a bar in the premises where often guests play guitar and sing. I strongly reccommend this place.

All in all a very good hostel, nice atmosphere, not crowded. Met nice people there. Some remarks: - I had a quite long walk to the bathrooms, even to the toilet. - Internet costs 4 Reais an hour - hey guys that´s really too much. - It´s fine that the hostel offers meals, but 10 reais for dinner (or 15 for the good christmas meal) is a bit too much, I think. - Staff in total average, some very nice (the girl from the US, don´t remember her name), some not very helpful and a bit distanced.

Top notch hostel. Amazingly friendly people, who are great fun and a pleasure to spend time with. Eager to show off their fabulous city. The hostel is clean, well run, not too big, has bags of charm, lots of activities and a great little bar. Lots of DVDs and games too. attracts a great bunch of backpackers from all over the place. Great place. John
